Maia Dunphy has opened up about motherhood – after welcoming her son Tom with husband Johnny Vegas in July.
The RTE star admitted she found the first few weeks “overwhelming” but soon adjusted with ease and now revealed it feels like her tot has “always been here”.
“Motherhood is just better than I expected and I’m such a sad cliché of a mother for saying this, but it actually feels like he’s always been here,” she said.

“I found the first few weeks overwhelming and slightly terrifying but it’s lovely and every week that goes by I get to know him a little better.
“He has his own little personality and you get so much more back as they get older – he laughs and smiles and he’s generally good craic,” she told the Sunday World Magazine.
The Dubliner, who is now based in London after a number of years commuting between the UK and Ireland for work, admitted she fully intended on working after the birth of her boy but is now enjoying watching him grow.
“I had this great plan that I was going to write a book, I’d write from nine until 12 every day – but that kind of schedule just doesn’t work with a newborn baby and when that didn’t work out I was stressing out a bit,” she said.

“Now I’m just being nicer to myself and I’ve decided to do what suits me and my little family.
“I’ve taken a step back work-wise in the past few months and it’s been brilliant because I was so determined that I was never going to be a stay-at-home mum, I was adamant that I would keep working,” she explained.
“Then one day I just thought, ‘hang on, he’s growing in front of my eyes, week by week he’s changing to so much, and I’m just sitting here panicking about work’. So I’m taking it a bit easy and I’m enjoying it more than I expected.”
