Eoghan McDermott: 'I would have no problem telling Nicky Byrne if his song was a dud'

Eoghan McDermott has backed his 2FM colleague Nicky Byrne for Eurovision success.

The RTE star admitted the former Westlife singer’s song, Sunlight, is perfect for the contest and insisted he wouldn’t have a “problem” telling him if it wasn’t.

“The worst-kept secret in the country was officially unveiled this week when Nicky Byrne was announced as Ireland’s
entry for Eurovision,” he said.

“Obviously myself and Nicky are 2FM colleagues — but I would have no problem saying it if I thought his
track Sunlight was a dud. It isn’t. The facts are simple.

“Our old song selection process has not worked for us for years,” he wrote in his Sun column.

“Nicky is a very popular and affable guy, he’s well known across Europe after his time in Westlife, he’ll give it welly and most importantly the song is perfect for Eurovision.

“His song is punchy, catchy and fun on the first listen. Best of luck to him in Stockholm!”
