It’s been a great year for Irish film with a host of actors and directors up for Oscar glory.
With the nominees just announced, there’s a good chance someone from the Emerald Isle could nab an Academy Award at the upcoming Los Angeles ceremony.
Leading the pack is Saoirse Ronan with her nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Brooklyn.

The Carlow native is up against Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Brie Larson and Jennifer Lawrence.
Michael Fassbender is up for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Steve Jobs and faces competition from Leonardo DiCaprio, Â Eddie Redmayne, Matt Damon and Bryan Cranston.
Meanwhile, Lenny Abrahamson has been nominated in the Best Director category for Room and is up against Alejandro G. Inarritu, Tom McCarthy, Adam McKay and George Miller.

While Irish flicks Room and Brooklyn are both up for Best adapted screenplay as well as Best picture.
Although he hasn’t been nominated for his performances, four of Domhnall Gleeson’s movies are up for the the gong this year.
Brooklyn and The Revenant are both up for Best Picture while Ex Machina is up for Best Original Screenplay and Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been nominated for Best Original Score, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Mixing and Editing.
Finally, Irish director Benjamin Cleary’s flick Stutterer is up for Best Live Action Short Film.
