Tonight’s eagerly anticipated second episode of RTE drama Rebellion aired with much mixed opinions.
Again social media was alight with a thread of hilarious and opinionated commentary on the historically inspired show.
This week’s episode saw the rebellion kick-off in full flow as viewers watched the characters begin their first steps to making Ireland a free state.
Although gripping, it seemed not everybody on Twitter was pleased with the episode’s direction:
Like many others on here I really want to like #Rebellion but it shot itself in the foot with its turgid pace and lack of dramatic tension.

Disappointing second episode. Fictional lead characters aren’t a patch on the real men and women of 1916 #rebellion

#Rebellion Loved last week. Set up nicely for ep. 2 but it was anti-climax. Main historical characters looking like parodies of themselves!

Understand the restrictions on dramatic representations but the story of 1916 focussed solely on Dublin does a grave disservice #Rebellion

#Rebellion failing on every possible level, neither a historic record nor drama, stagy, stilted, clunky and clumsy. Waste of time & effort

In one episode RTE managed to rewrite the entire rising…. #rebellion

Many viewers were vocal about their dissatisfaction with the second helping of the show – blaming the drama for it’s historical inaccuracies.
However other social media users were quick to defend the series – reiterating it’s a drama not a documentary.
While other’s praised the series for bringing the 1916 Easter Rising alive for them:
The sole purpose of #Rebellion is to show how the ordinary citizens felt during the rising: there is less focus on the historical figures

#Rebellion this is powerful-atmosphere, setting, costumes has brought this alive for the first time for me. The drama adds to the history

Despite all it’s shortcomings, it’s still better than Michael Collins. #Rebellion

#Rebellion is getting very mixed reviews on here….. I’ve never seen anything split the country like it!

It’s a new take on the Rising, and as a history student, I find it very interesting! It’s a drama, not a documentary #Rebellion

Everybody who is upset over #Rebellion repeat after me D R A M A

While tonight’s show was hit with much opinion online, there was a lot going on for the characters.
The three strong female leads faced dramas of their own with May getting herself into a the ultimate love triangle, Frances being made bow out of the fight and Elizabeth pulling a runner on her wedding day.
Oh and let’s not forget Snapchat star Fron made a ground-breaking appearance that involved looting a hat.
At Goss HQ we have to admit we can’t wait and see what happens next week.
