Everything we know about Twitter’s new rival app Threads

Meta has launched a brand new app, rivaling Twitter, called Threads.

According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Threads logged logged five million sign-ups in its first four hours of operation, and a total of ten million within seven hours.

In a similar to fashion to Twitter, the app features short text posts which users can like, report and reply to.

Posts can be up to 500 characters in length and include links, photos and videos up to five minutes long.

The app does not have any direct messaging capabilities. Threads users need an Instagram account to log in.

Once users have signed up, they can choose to follow the same accounts as on their Instagram if they too are on the new app.

While the app has launched across 100 countries, it hasn’t launched in the EU.

Threads is laid out in a similar way to Twitter; however, some of the wording has been adjusted.

Retweets are called “reposts” and tweets are called “threads”.

Users can unfollow, block, restrict or report others, while also being able to filter out certain words.
