DWTS boss casts doubt on the show’s future as he addresses return of Jennifer Zamperelli and Doireann Garrihy

DWTS boss has cast his doubt on the show’s future as he addressed the return of Jennifer Zamperelli and Doireann Garrihy.

Executive producer Larry Bass revealed that RTÉ have not commissioned another series of the dance competition as of yet.

According to Larry: “Until RTÉ finances are addressed, they cannot commit to the scale of DWTS in over six months’ time.”

He continued: “If we are to do the show, I shall be looking forward to working with both Jen and Doireann again.”

“They are both fantastic to work with, utter professionals to the bone, they are one of the reasons the Irish public love DWTS in such high numbers.”

“Both ladies’ contracts with us were outside their 2FM contracts. So we will be delighted to welcome both presenters back if we are lucky enough to be asked to produce the nation’s favourite show again.”

The executive producer also confirmed that DWTS would usually be commissioned by RTÉ “before the summer”, otherwise the series could not be made.

“So hopefully the Government will make some funding decisions before they all go on holidays,” Larry said.

In an interview on 2FM on Friday with Laura Fox, who is inheriting her slot, Jennifer revealed that although she was leaving 2FM, she was not finished working for RTÉ.

“I am just going to do projects that fit in with my family life and I am in a position to do that, which is very exciting,” the outgoing host said.

The mother-of-two, who has been on extended leave over the past few weeks, revealed she decided to leave 2FM after 10 years in order to spend more time with her children.

“If certain shows come back, I will be back for that,” she said, hinting at her return to Dancing with the Stars, which she co-hosts with Doireann Garrihy.

“I have other ideas I would love to work with RTÉ on because it has given me a lot of joy over the last 10 years,” she continued.

“I know I’ve made the right decision… I haven’t left RTÉ I’ve left 2FM.”

Signing off the show, Jennifer told listeners: “I would like to say it’s been an absolute pleasure.”

“Thank you for letting me grow as a presenter, and I wouldn’t be the broadcaster I am today on Dancing with the Stars, or on telly, or running businesses, if I didn’t have the opportunity in radio because doing a live show every single day is not easy, but it is the most amazing experience, you know.”

“And I have laughed. I’ve met some of the greatest friends. You have my back.”

Jennifer added: “I will be tuning in, that’s all I’m going to say, because I think the best is yet to come.”
