Dermot O’Leary has admitted that he’s embarrassed to call himself Irish – as his attempts at growing spuds have been a complete and utter disaster.
The former X Factor presenter revealed that he enjoys growing Ireland’s favourite food in the back garden of his London home but doesn’t have enough room for a patch.
“I’ve got a potato barrel as I live in the city so I haven’t really got a proper garden. I care so much, I’d lose sleep over it,” he said.

The 42-year-old is a second generation Irishman, with both his parents hailing from Co. Wexford.
“As a second-generation Irishman you’re judged very much on how you can grow potatoes,” he told The Star.
“Two years ago – The Blight ’13 as I call it – was a disastrous year. Last year we got a dinner and a half out of it!”
