Ryan Tubridy vows he WILL quit RTE for the BBC and finally make critics happy

Ryan Tubridy has admitted he would quit RTE if an offer from the BBC to work for them comes along.

The Late Late Show presenter admits he is frustrated by criticism of the flagship chatshow, his large salary, and losing listeners on 2FM.

And Tubs – who has been highly praised during his fill-in slots on BBC Radio 2 – said he would leave RTE if an offer came along and finally silence his critics.

But the 41-year-old would commute across from the home he shares with long-term girlfriend Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain.

Asked if he would quit RTE for the BBC, Tubridy said: “If you asked me that question a couple of years ago I would have said that was highly unlikely.

“Now I’m more inclined to rule the option in than out. It very much might happen.

“If I did I wouldn’t move over but I would commute. Terry Wogan did it for a while and didn’t come home.

“Of course, there will be a lot of people hoping for that.”

And Tubridy said it would give him a break from constant criticism of him – given the BBC is the only place he feels he’s being praised.

“When you present The Late Late Show you are seen as the biggest beast in the jungle,” he told the RTE Guide.

“So you’re ‘the guy’ and once you accept that, that’s okay. They gun for you, they gun for the show, they play the ball or they play the man.

“Of course it’s not good for your confidence when you keep getting beaten over the head every four months with people saying, ‘He’s a disaster on the radio’.

“But then you go to London and people say, ‘He’s not that bad’.”
