RTE are set for their biggest ratings battle to date – when Pat Kenny’s show takes on Brendan O’Connor.
The ex-Late Late Show host signed up to UTV Ireland earlier this week in a €200,000-a-year deal.
UTV Ireland executives have decided they will give the Newstalk presenter his own Saturday night show and take on ‘Beefy’.
It will see Pat competing against The Late Late Show and the Saturday Night Show to book guests – but he has already proven capable of getting out his own contacts book at Newstalk.

It is thought that Brendan’s show could easily be beaten due to the presenter’s poor on-screen style and dislike with viewers.
Insiders said that UTV Ireland have decided against taking on Ryan Tubridy and The Late Late Show after the absolute failure when Eamon Dunphy tried for TV3.

“They won’t take on the Tubridy and the Late Late Show,” a TV source told the Star. “It didn’t work any other time a programme has tried to do it, for example Dunphy on TV3.”
UTV Ireland will only say they are “finalising” ideas with Pat for when he reappears on screens.
