Brendan O’Connor: ‘Ray D’Arcy did NOT snub me’

Brendan O’Connor has insisted that he was not “snubbed” by Ray D’Arcy before the first episode of his new show aired last week.

The RTÉ star’s Saturday Night Show was axed last year, and his slot was filled by The Ray D’Arcy Show, but Brendan is still adamant that there’s no bad blood between the pair.

Brendan’s new show Cutting Edge aired last Wednesday and pulled in stellar ratings, but unfortunately it was reported that Ray had snubbed Brendan by not wishing him luck – which isn’t the case according to Brendan.

No rivalry: Brendan insists Ray DID NOT snub him | ANDRES POVEDA

Speaking about the pair’s supposed rivalry, Brendan admitted that he thought it was a “bit unfair” for people to suggest that Ray replaced Brendan.

He also mentioned that during a press call last week, he was asked if Ray had wished him luck yet, to which he replied, “No”, and of course – drama ensued.

“The headlines the next day? Basically along the lines of all the stars wished me good luck except Ray,” he wrote in Sunday Independent Living.

“So not only did it look as if Ray had deliberately snubbed me, whereas in fact he hadn’t wished me luck because he doesn’t know me, it also looked as if I was upset by it.

Pals: Brendan said he was inundated with good luck texts | VIPIRELAND.COM

“And as if I was calling him out in the media for this shameful behaviour. And I walked into it with one word. No.”

Brendan also joked that he was then inundated with good luck texts from showbiz pals – presumably incase he called them out in public.

“Were they just worried that they would be called out in the media by me for not sending a text?

“We had a running joke that I was crossing them off the list as their texts arrived. And fuming over the ones who had yet to text me. Marty Morrissey? Tick.

“But where is Jimmy Magee’s text? Brian Dobson said a vague good luck in the hall. Lucky for him, we laughed. He’s off the blacklist,” he added.
