Emma Waldron: 'I stay away from all the competitive models in New York'

Former Miss Ireland Emma Waldron has revealed she steers well clear of the competitive models in New York – as she makes her mark on the US fashion industry.

The Dublin native relocated to the Big Apple to further her career in January and has landed some high profile gigs since, but she isn’t about to let cattiness from other models stop her from getting to the top.

“Everyone over here is really friendly, but I think it comes down to what you put out: if you’re nasty and competitive they’re going to be the same back to you,” she said.

“You’re always going to meet people, no matter what industry you’re in, who want to compete with you, but you just have to let them off.”

The model mentioned that girls are chosen for jobs for very specific reasons so being competitive is pointless.

“At the end of the day with modelling, someone wants you because of your face and because nobody else has your face or your body.”

“They are going to want you because they want you so being competitive is kind of silly,” she told The Herald.

The former beauty queen has a no nonsense approach to the modelling industry and revealed she didn’t mind when her New York agency  MSA models gave her a makeover when she signed with them.

Easy going: Emma doesn’t feel the need to compete with other models

“If that’s what they feel they need here, then I’m more hireable and better at my job,” she said.

“When you take a photo in work you’re looking at it like you’re a tool or you’re a hanger or something.”

Emma first caught the eye of modelling bosses when she first won Miss Ireland but has revealed her busy New York career is completely different to the smaller industry in Ireland.

“Here every day is different. You have different jobs on all the time. One day it’s a magazine, or a TV slot or walking in a show. It’s all completely different.”
