RTÉ have addressed whether Katy O’Brien will finally be freed on Fair City this weekend, and fans won’t like their answer.
The character has been held in captivity for the last 12 months, making her kidnapping one of the longest storylines in Fair City’s history, and fans have grown sick and tired of the plot.
However, over the past few days rumours began circulating online that Katy, who is played by Amelia Clarke Stewart, is going to escape from her kidnapper Ciaran (Johnny Ward) on Sunday night’s episode.
But, a spokesperson for RTE has since banished the claims by saying, “I can confirm that the Katy O’Brien storyline will not come to a conclusion this weekend.”

The news comes after fans created an online petition in order to convince Fair City writers to free Katy, and over 7,500 people so far have signed the petition.
The national broadcaster previously said in a statement, “To have hastened this story would not have done justice to the ramifications of such an act upon everyone it touches.”
Fair City airs Sunday night, 8pm on RTE One.
