Today FM's Ray D'Arcy left 'shook' after acting the hero as he tackes a gang of car thieves

Ray D’Arcy was left “a bit shook” after he acted the hero yesterday – by stopping a group of thugs from robbing a car in Dublin.

The Today FM host had arrived at the Red Cow hotel off the M50, when he spotted a group of lads he thought weren’t up to all right.

And instead of just walking on – the 50-year-old felt it was his duty to intervene and be a have-a-go hero in the process.

He said: “I had to go to the Red Cow hotel yesterday for a meeting, and as I drove into the car park, I noticed a blue car with a group of men in it wearing baseball hats.

“And I thought, they look a bit old, a bit long in the tooth to be wearing baseball hats. They were looking a bit fidgety as well.

“I drove on, parked my car and looked back at the lads in the car. One of them had climbed out of that car and was in another car and was obviously searching for goodies in the car.

“So in my head I’m thinking they’ve definitely broken into that car, they’re up to no good. Now I have to decide, what do I do, do I intervene?

“Or do I let them go on with what they’re doing? So I’m standing there looking at them and I go ‘Oi, Is that your car?’ and I got no response so I said it again.

“Surprise surprise it wasn’t their car, the man that was in the other car climbed out, covered his head and got back into the other car and they left at speed.”

And Ray – who sounded shaken telling his story – admitted he found the ordeal unsettling.

He added: “I got the reg and gave it to the people in the hotel. It’s odd and unsettling when you encounter that. “
