Eurovision fans have a reason to celebrate this Easter as RTE2 airs 60th anniversary special

RTE2 is set to make Eurovision fans extremely happy this Easter – with a special for the show’s 60th anniversary.

Over Easter Weekend, they will air a special Eurovision’s Greatest Hits event featuring some of its most memorable stars.

It will be coming from London’s Apollo theatre, which will roll out the red carpet to celebrate the famous song contest – with Graham Norton and 2013 presenter Petra Mede hosting.

Veteran: Eurovision commentator Graham Norton will host the glamorous affair

Reigning Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst will take to the stage singing her winning song Rise Like A Phoenix with performances by 1984’s Swedish winners Herreys and 2001’s Natasha St. Pier from France also announced.

Host Graham said of the bash: “I love Eurovision and am honoured to be co-hosting this special show. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 60 years of the greatest song contest in the world!” 

Co-host Petra agreed, saying: “I am so looking forward to participating in this concert, this true celebration of a contest that has been a part of not only my, but so many peoples lives. 

“And it is an honour to co-host the show with Graham, who is fast becoming a Eurovision legend himself.”

RTE2’s Channel Controller, Bill Malone said: “Ireland and Irish audiences have always had a very special relationship with the Eurovision and we are delighted to be able to bring our viewers this massive 60th anniversary concert.”
