Record breaker: Mrs Brown's Boys makes €1 million on opening weekend

Comedian Brendan O’Carroll is celebrating today as Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie has already made €1 million – just in Ireland.

The comedy flick has had the biggest ever opening weekend for an Irish film in Ireland – and represented 20% of all films seen over the weekend.

And it proves that despite being slagged by the critics for weeks, it made no difference to the public.

The movie – based on Dublin’s Moore Street – is the third biggest comedy opening in Ireland after The Hangover and Ted.

General Manager of Universal Pictures Dave Burke said: “We are thrilled that Irish cinemagoers have embraced the phenomenon that is Agnes Brown and made her Queen of the Box Office. The results are truly spectacular.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie has also done massively well in the UK, and is the number one movie across the UK and Ireland with £4.27 million takings over the weekend.

Brendan previously said he never writes his scripts for critics.
