Liam Neeson is set to play a Jesuit missionary in his new major film role.
The Northern Irish actor will play the main role in Silence, which is being produced by Martin Scorsese.
It tells the tale of Jesuit missionaries who risked persecution to spread the word of God to Buddhists in Japan in the 17th Century.

The 62-year-old – who is best known for Taken – will play Jesuit Father Ferreira alongside Amazing Spider Man star Andrew Garfield.
The movie will begin filming next month after a number of years of delays and legal wrangling.
Last month, Liam emerged as the most profitable Irish actor – after appearing in the Forbes richest actor list.
