Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin shocked fan when the news of their engagement broke on Sunday.
Bieber popped the question in the Bahamas but predicted he would marry the singer years ago.
He asked Stephen Baldwin for his daughter’s hand in marriage several weeks ago but the Biebs had been considering spending his life with her long before that.
An interview with Marie Claire two years ago Bieber revealed he already had marriage on his mind.
“I know that in the past I’ve hurt people and said things that I didn’t mean to make them happy in the moment.”
“So now I’m just more so looking at the future, making sure I’m not damaging them.”
He went on to say, “What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right?”
“If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged.”
“It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard… I just don’t want to hurt her.”
He got back into a relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Selena Gomez, in the interim between that interview and reuniting with Hailey.
Gomez was “not surprised” by their engagement.
