Lashes, Lips and Nails: 6 beauty trend to follow in 2016

Beauty trends 2016 1

As we jump on the ‘new year, new me’ band wagon it’s not only our health and fitness we need to shake up but our beauty regime too.

From statement lips to the must-wear cobalt liner, 2016 brings a number of beauty looks that we can definitely work into our everyday routine.

While January wants to streamline our drawers, Goss.ie will be doing the opposite and adding to our make-up bags with these must-try looks.

Sure give them a go because if you never try, you never know what beauty trends you’ll be missing out on:

1. Glitterati

If you thought you could say goodbye to the glitter parting of 2015, well you’re wrong.

Although not necessarily to put in your hair this season, glitter is taking over eyes, brows, cheeks and nails for 2016.

Jewels, sequence and sparkle owned Givenchy and Naeem Khan shows in New York – making sure that glitter was on everyone’s beauty radar for 2016.

Although most think of glitter as an annoying matter that sticks to your face for days after you wore it, it will now be a staple in your make-up bag.

For a simple but effective way to wear it, try applying glitter over a nail on each hand when painting your mitts or add a little glitter to the inner corners of your eyes to make them pop.

Try MAC Glitter Pots or Barry M‘s Glitterati Nail Varnish in Catwalk Queen.

2. Modern French

Most of you might be thinking a French manicure has always been in fashion – however beauty lovers will see the go-to-nail trend break the white tip mould.

Pops of colour, crocodile print and oxblood tips are all updated versions of the look you’ll see this 2016.

Goss HQ loves negative space nails lined with silver and orange crescents which we saw on Tibi and Jonathan Simkhai runways.

We recommend going for an angular shape and match it with a bright green for the full 80’s effect.

Try Sally Hansen‘s Nail Art Pen or Topshop Nail Varnish in Peahces and Cream.

3. Gloss That

You may be feeling a bit weary of the sounds of this trend but you shouldn’t be as it’s easy to achieve.

Although taken to the extreme on Marc Jacobs and Edun’s catwalks, this new look brings healthy glowing skin to new heights.

Essentially making it look as though you’ve danced all night in Havana, the trick to this trend is balancing your overall look and not going overboard with your products.

To achieve the trend try placing Vaseline lightly on your lids, under your eyes and on your cheekbones to get that ‘I’ve just walked out the Sauna’ look.

However, if you’re not confident on taking the full glossy plunge, Goss HQ recommends a high-shine lip gloss and a highlighter on your cheekbones.

Try Lancome‘s Limited Spring Edition Gloss in Love Volumiser in French Ballerina or Buff Make-up Highlighter in Sheer Glo.

4. Blue Steele

As we said, the new year is a time to shake things up and the statement blue liner is something beauty guru’s should add to their make-up bags.

A bold look to rock, this trend definitely channels the 80’s with the electric cobalt blue.

The trend, which is already working it’s way on the red carpets, the blue liner was seen on Monique Lhuillier and Marc Jacobs.

If you’re feeling gutsy then go for a thick cobalt feline flick on a bare lid or if you’re wanting to channel the 70’s go for a watercolour blue shadow all over the eye like Kendall Jenner on the DVF catwalk.

Try NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue or Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Big Blue.

5. Bold Lips

Get your lips talking this year with bold shades in crimson, oxblood, orange and pink.

To achieve this look, keep your skin clean with just foundation and concealer to let your lips speak volumes.

Pair the trend with a brushed up boyish brow to add an edge and focus the features you want to highlight.

Make sure to use a lip liner when trying this look so the colour of your lip doesn’t fade, slip or smudge over the day.

Try Urban Decay‘s Revolution Lipstick in F Bomb and match it with Urban Decay‘s 24/7 Lip pencil in Venom.

6. Layering of lashes

Your lashes will be getting a makeover this year with intentionally clumpy and spiky looks big for 2016.

Seen on the Marc Jacob runway, clumpy lashes went to the extreme with overloading of product and now the trend has trickled down to mainstream mascara brands offering clumped-up formulas.

However, if the clumpy look is too much – follow Tory Burch’s lead and concentrate your mascara on the outer edges of your eyes, leaving the other lashes clean for a cat-eye effect.

You see there’s a result for everyone!

Try Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Mascara or Eylure Definition 120 Lashes
