Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh reveals plans for Irish Strictly Come Dancing

Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh has revealed that an Irish version of Strictly Come Dancing could be in the pipeline for RTÉ, and she wants to host.

While there is speculation surrounding the rumours that RTÉ will replace the Voice of Ireland with Ireland’s Got Talent, the flame-haired star admitted that the station is considering other popular entertainment programmes – namely Strictly Come Dancing.

“There is talk of Strictly, and I’d love to host it and keep it going,” she said.

“I can dance – I won a local Strictly competition – so Id be up for it if they asked me. The BBC show is such a wonderful family production.”

The 45-year-old also acted as a judge on the All-Ireland Talent Show, and admitted that she hopes RTÉ have learned a few things about talent shows since, bashing the “county against county” theme of the show.

“I love the idea of the show, but as regards the whole idea of the provinces thing in the All-Ireland Talent Show, I wonder was it too much – county against county?” she told the Herald.

Not afraid: Blathnaid wouldn’t hesitate to leave RTÉ for greener pastures | VIPIRELAND.COM

Speaking about whether she would consider leaving RTÉ to pursue other projects, the Gaeilgeoir didn’t hesitate to say yes – despite working with the broadcaster for years.

“Of course I would. I’m 45, so the last thing I should be saying is that, but I’m not saying that. I would (leave) if there was an opportunity,” she explained.

“What might have scared me in my 30s, doesn’t scare me now – I’m in my 40s now. I know college fees have to be paid and all of that, but they will be paid.”
