Oscar success for Room looks even more certain after the movie won big at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.
The indie drama picked up the gongs for the Best Female Lead for Brie Larson and Best First Screenplay for Emma Donoghue, wh also wrote the bestselling novel.
While accepting her award, Emma thanked director Lenny Abrahamson for helping to make her feel welcome in the movie biz.

“Thank you everyone who has welcomed this ignorant newbie into the movie business, but especially Element Pictures and our great director, Lenny Abrahamson,” she said.
“Lenny led me into the world of independent film like mighty Gandalf to my Bilbo. I couldn’t have had a wiser or kinder or funnier guide.”
Room is up for several awards at the Oscars including Best Director and Best Actress where Brie will face off against Brooklyn actress Saoirse Ronan.
