The Voice is officially too SEXY for TV – as watchdogs found dance routine was too X-rated to air

The Voice of Ireland is officially too sexy for TV – as watchdogs found their risque dance routines were too X-rated to be shown.

The RTE show – which was seen by 521,200 people – was blasted by watchdogs after a viewer complained about the routine which accompanied Danica Holland’s performance.

Annoyed Caoimhe Guilfoyle complained that she was “tired of having her children subjected to increasing amounts of sexuality in the name of ‘entertainment’” at 6.30pm.

She added that it was “purely intended to instil shock to gain votes and notoriety for the show” – especially after Bressie said it looked like “a scene from Basic Instinct”.

It was reported at the time that several audience members stormed out of the live recording in the Helix, when Danica performed Lady Gaga’s Do What You Want.

And the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland today decided it did not follow TV rules – as the routine “included clear sexual overtones” themes of “sexual submission, both emotional and physical”.

The BAI added that the RTE show should have warned about the upcoming routine and “did not demonstrate due care” – despite it being justified to go with the song.

Too sexy for TV: BAI upheld complaint | RTE

They said: “The Committee was of the view that the nature and timing of the programme was such that it constituted family viewing and regard should be had to the likelihood that children will be members of the viewing audience.”

However producers Screentime ShinAwil insisted they felt it was not too sexual for TV.

The said: “The dancers in the show were never sexually explicit; this term implies intercourse and nudity which most certainly is not the case.

“They have various dance routines that are professionally choreographed and the dancers are dressed appropriately and mostly feature in the background of a performance.

“They always take into consideration the fact that the audiences are a range of ages and opinions as well as the fact that they are broadcasting pre-watershed.”
