RTE host Marty Whelan has said he would have told Gerry Ryan to “slow down”.
The TV favourite revealed he knew Gerry “liked a good time” and thought he was doing too much.
“I knew he liked a good time. He liked to live life to the full. He lived it large. And I would think that I would like a good time too,” Marty admitted.
“Like most of us, we enjoy a decent drink and a decent meal and a decent holiday. Yes, I like a nice life. But Gerry seemed to be on the go all the time.

“And you can’t be on the go all the time,” he told the Sunday Independent.
“Gerry and I are actually the very same age. I think two days between us and he was one of these people who seemed to be going all the time. That’s not a runner. You can’t do that.”
Asked what he would have told Gerry, Marty said he would have advised him to relax.
“If you had a conversation about it t would be, ‘Janey, are you ever home? Would you not relax? Would you not slow down?’

“But you would do it in a kind of a throwaway manner, like fellas do. You wouldn’t actually be saying it, thinking: ‘He’s going to go.’
“The shock when he went was incredible, when we found out,”he explained.
