Johnny Logan: 'Molly is the best Eurovision entry we've had in years – but she wont win'

Johnny Logan has revealed he thinks Molly Sterling is the best Eurovision entry Ireland has had in years – but he still doesn’t think she’ll win.

The Hold Me Now singer has given the Tipperary native his backing as she heads off to Vienna today but he admitted her song Playing With Numbers is not a winner.

“I think it’s one of the best entries we’ve had for years. It’s not that I think the song is the best song, but it’s a nice song, sung well, by a beautiful young girl,” he said.

“It’s gone back to someone playing piano and singing with a band and that’s what we always do great.”

Johnny won the Eurovision with What’s Another Year in 1980 and Hold Me Now in 1987 and also wrote Linda Martin’s winning song Why Me? in 1992.

However, the Dublin native has insisted he’ll never do the contest again because he doesn’t want to be the scapegoat.

“There would always be this fear in the back of my head that I’m going to get screwed,” he told VIP magazine.

“Over the years, people went to the Eurovision and didn’t do as well as expected. And when they came back, the people who had hyped them up were conspicuous by their absence. They abandoned them.”

“I think it would be far too easy to be used as a scapegoat like that myself.”

Molly is flying to Eurovision today and will have her first on stage rehearsal tomorrow morning.
