Brendan O'Connor insists: 'I BEGGED Noel Gallagher to sing live on The Saturday Night Show'

Brendan O’Connor has revealed he begged Noel Gallagher to sing live during his recent appearance on The Saturday Night Show.

Viewers blasted the RTE show last month when the former Oasis singer was clearly lip-syncing on the live chat show.

Now presenter Brendan has admitted RTE tried everything they could to get him to sing live:

“Then Noel Gallagher comes in, we begged him, and he wouldn’t do it,” Brendan said.

“I went out in the afternoon, I established my Oasis credentials, I brought out my old Supersonic CD, got him to sign it, showed I was a real fan.

“I even brought one of the children to kind of soften him up, because my kids would be the same age as his. So all going great,” he told John Murray on RTE Radio 1.

“My dream was we would end the show that night with him sitting two feet away from me on the couch and he would sing Live Forever and he does do Oasis songs.

“So then I said if we had an acoustic guitar would you do a few bars of a song, he said ‘no’ and then he walked away from me.”

Begged: Brendan tried to persuade Noel

Despite miming on the RTE chat show, days earlier Noel had sang live on The Graham Norton Show, but Brendan insisted that was because the show wasn’t actually live.

“I don’t know if he was saving his voice for his gig on Wednesday night. Now he sang live on Graham Norton with a track, but Graham Norton isn’t live.

“He stood there and they played the two songs he was doing repeatedly over the speaker and he stood there kind of vaguely mouthing along to it, that was his practice for the show.

“I gather he was over in 2FM before doing a recording, and I don’t know if this is true, but they said he insisted he did it eight times, so maybe he’s just a perfectionist.
