A new royal biography has claimed that Prince Philip thinks Prince Harry stepped away from the royal family to become a “self-centred celebrity”.
‘Prince Philip Revealed: A Man of His Century’ was written by royal commentator Ingrid Seward – focusing on the Duke of Edinburgh’s early life and his life as a royal.
In an excerpt from the book obtained by the Mail on Sunday, the author discusses Phillip’s feelings about Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s decision to step away from their senior royal titles.
“It grieves Philip that many younger members of the Royal Family do not appear to share his values,” the book reads.
“He has struggled greatly, for example, with what he sees as his grandson Harry’s dereliction of duty, giving up his homeland and everything he cared about for a life of self-centred celebrity in North America.
“He has found it hard to understand exactly what it was that made his grandson’s life so unbearable.
“As far as Philip was concerned, Harry and Meghan had everything going for them: a beautiful home, a healthy son, and a unique opportunity to make a global impact with their charity work.”
The book’s description reads: “For more than 70 years, Prince Philip has been the Queen’s constant companion and support, but his vital role in the monarchy has too often gone largely unnoticed.
“Now, in Ingrid Seward’s superb new biography of the Duke of Edinburgh, we get the chance to read the full story of his remarkable life and achievements.”
The book is available from October 1st.
