Love Island bosses receive ‘thousands’ of applications ahead of summer series return

Love Island bosses have reportedly received thousands of applications ahead of the summer series return. The popular dating show was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic

The 2020 series was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, with applications for the 2021 summer series opening in November.

The popular dating show is set to take place in a Covid-secure set in Majorca in July, with over 100,000 singletons hoping to secure a place in the infamous villa.

An insider told The Sun: “The casting team have been shocked by the amount of contestant applications they’ve received and impressed with the standard.”

“They can’t wait to start remotely screen-testing their favourites over the next few months,” the source explained.

“Producers reckon it’s because youngsters have been stuck at home, getting cabin fever and know the show is a one-way ticket to success.

“With very few new telly programs being made at the moment, Love Island is set to be a ratings winner.”

Applications are open until April 30, with the call-out reading: “ITV2 are looking for vibrant singles from across the UK who want to head to the sun, in search of love.

“The chosen cast will spend time in a luxury villa, getting to know one another, but to remain in paradise they must win the hearts of the public and their fellow Islanders who ultimately decide their fate on Love Island.”

The casting process is expected to begin in January, with a source telling The Sun: “Reality shows can now have huge casts living together as long as all participants and crew have isolated for two full weeks beforehand, as well as having regular temperature testing both on and off-set.”

“Obviously there’s always an element of risk but ITV bosses feel it’s time to get the Love Island cogs turning, with a view to it being made in early summer.”
