King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to attend the annual Easter Sunday service today.
Last year, the King led his family on foot to St George’s Chapel in Windsor for the service, but this year he is expected to be driven to the door in the state Bentley.
This will mark his “gentle” return to the public stage since he revealed his cancer diagnosis in February.
According to the Sunday Express, Charles and Camilla will sit apart from other members of the Royal family to avoid any infection during his treatment.
Meanwhile, a source told the Telegraph that his planned attendance is a “sign of things heading in the right direction.”
The news comes just over a week after Kate Middleton revealed she had also been diagnosed with cancer, and was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.
The Prince and Princess of Wales won’t attend today’s service, as they’re spending Easter at home with their three children.
It’s understood Prince Andrew will head the procession of the remaining royals today as they arrive at the chapel.
This follows protocol despite Prince Edward having been endorsed as the leading figure in Charles’ absence.
Michael Colet, a royal expert, told the Sunday Express: “In the absence of Prince William, his brother Prince Harry, and their children, Andrew has precedence as eighth in line to the throne, despite the dark clouds that gather over his head as a result of his ill-judged friendship with the late, unlamented serial child abuser Jeffrey Epstein.”
He continued: “The King is a man of faith and Easter has always been of great importance to him.”
“He was determined to attend St George’s Chapel, leading the Royal Family in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, the most significant date in the Christian calendar.”
