Katie Hopkins fined and deported from Australia – after being axed from Celebrity Big Brother

Katie Hopkins has had her visa cancelled and been deported from Australia, after she made comments about disobeying quarantine rules on social media.

The controversial TV star jetted to Sydney last week to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, and was placed into two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine.

But after the 46-year-old joked about taunting guards and opening her hotel room door without a mask during an Instagram Live, Katie was axed from the line-up.

In a statement, New South Wales police confirmed that they assisted immigration authorities in deporting Katie to the UK on Monday afternoon.

They also revealed that she was fined $1,000 for allegedly failing to wear a mask.

Home affairs minister Karen Andrews described Katie’s behaviour as “shameful.”

Speaking to ABC News Breakfast she said: “The fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was appalling.”

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard also condemned the behaviour.

He said: “To think she could think that the measures we are taking to keep our community safe can be treated with such juvenile, imbecilic behaviour is just mind-boggling.”

“To think that she could put our teams in our health quarantine, our staff … to think that she thinks it is acceptable to put them at risk and to put our broader community at risk is completely abhorrent and I hope she is on the first plane back.”

The news comes after Katie denied she broke quarantine rules in a post shared on Instagram yesterday, after she was axed from the Big Brother line-up.
