Hugh Grant reveals possible shock career change despite how ‘terrifying’ it is

Hugh Grant has revealed the possible shock career change he is considering despite how “terrifying” it is.

The actor has delved into this world before and despite receiving the height of abuse at the time, revealed he could be tempted into it once more.

The 63-year-old shared that he would be interested in working in politics, even though he had been heavily criticised for dipping his toe in before.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: “[Switching into politics] has crossed my mind. But what I really see close up is that it’s almost impossible to actually get anything done. It’s just impossible.”

“I’ve had a bit of it before…but this was really extreme and shocking and threatening to one’s family.”

However, Hugh explained that he may be put off the move into politics by the negative effect it could have on his family.

He added: “You’ve got to bring so many people with you. My wife’s mother is a politician. She was quite senior in the Swedish Parliament.”

“Whenever the subject comes up, she just says, ‘Don’t. You have to water down everything. It’s all horse-trading. And nowadays the incoming abuse is unthinkable.'”

Hugh’s mother-in-law Susanne Eberstein was a former member of the Riksdag, which oversees the legislature of Sweden.

Susanne worked there from 1994 to 2019 and served as its First Deputy Speaker between 2010 and 2014.

Hugh tied the knot to the politician’s daughter Anna in 2018.

The A-lister also confessed his own performance in the run-up to the 2019 General Election has also scarred him.

The actor campaigned for people to vote in such a way that would stop Brexit from going ahead, but he admitted that he “did very badly” and “lost in every single constituency.”

He added: “What was interesting was the abuse that came in from the right. I never know if they’re real or if they’re bots. But they’re good. They’re brilliant at what they do.”

“So, I do see that you have to be either very brave or insane to go into politics in the digital age,” he concluded.
