X Factor contestant Sam Black will propose to his girlfriend Emma Smith in scenes that will air tonight.
The 27-year-old plasterer, who hails from the Isle of Man, left judges Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne teary-eyed as Sam got down on one knee while on stage during Bootcamp.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Emma said, “It was one big shock, it was the last thing I was expecting. I was completely overwhelmed.”
“He was nervous before the performance and I thought how he had to be nervous for this too. It was very brave of him.”
“I was crying happy tears and really surprised. We have been together nearly five years now and he did say afterwards that he had wanted to propose for a while.”
On tonight’s show, viewers will see Sam perform Del Shannon’s Runaway before asking Simon Cowell, “Is there something I can do before I go from the stage, because I’m never going to get this chance?”
Emma, who is the mother of Sam’s 11-month-old son Mason, then joins him on stage and he gets down on one knee to ask, “Do you reckon I would get a yes off you?”
“Of course I said yes, it was such a special moment, one I won’t ever forget. I had no idea he had a ring on him when were on our way to bootcamp,” she said.
The newly-engaged couple, who met through mutual friends, are yet to set a date – but said that they’ll definitely invite the X Factor judges.
“We’re thinking about going abroad and doing it, somewhere hot, I think. We will invite the X Factor judges, and Sam is thinking of asking Louis Walsh to be best man.”
