The Late Late Show with Claire Byrne? The RTE star's odds slashed to become next host

Claire Byrne has seen her odds dramatically slashed of becoming the next Late Late Show host.

The RTE star only launched Claire Byrne Live this week – and is already being tipped as one of the most likely hosts to take over from Ryan Tubridy.

The broadcaster is now neck-and-neck with RTE veteran Miriam O’Callaghan for the coveted spot, which would make her the first female Late Late presenter.

Miriam is currently still the hot favourite to take over from Ryan with odds of 4/7 while former Today FM star Ray D’Arcy is runner up with odds of 5/2.

Meanwhile, Claire has come out of nowhere to now being third favourite for the hot seat with odds of 8/1.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “Claire Byrne wasn’t even on our list for Next Late Late Show Host until this week.”

He added: “Then we saw how well she hosted her own Claire Byrne Live programme on RTE on Monday night and she clearly is somebody that’s going places.”

While Ryan has not announced his departure, the TV star who is currently in his sixth year of hosting the legendary chat show has previously said he will not do a ten year stint like Pat Kenny.

An RTE source said: “The Late Late has gone to male ‘D4’ type figures in the past like Tubridy and Pat Kenny and, if there’s to be  a first female host then Claire would be a great candidate.”
