Laurence Kinlan couldn't stomach kid being left an orphan after parents shot on Love/Hate

Love/Hate star Laurence Kinlan has told how he was emotionally wrecked seeing a baby left an orphan on the show.

The TV actor had his heartstrings pulled when Darren – played by Robert Sheehan – killed a young tot’s two parents in a brutal killing.

And the 31-year-old – who plays Elmo and has two children – said it was the parent inside him that found it extremely tough to watch.

“There was a scene in series three where Robert Sheehan’s character Darren shot Elmo’s cousin and his girlfriend, and the baby was left crying,” he said.

“That, for me, was tough. When you’re a dad, the idea of kids being left on their own was a hard watch.”

But Laurence finds most other scenes – such as a brutal rape scene, or the shocking killing of a cat – easier to stomach after being there when they are shot.

“Because I’ve seen it on paper and I’ve watched the process and know how it’s done, I don’t get that shock factor,” he added. But I can understand why viewers do – it’s a hard watch.”
