Kate Garraway reveals she’s received ‘abuse’ for ‘laughing and joking’ on GMB while her husband is ill

The presenter has slammed viewers for judging her

Kate Garraway has revealed she’s received “abuse” for “laughing and joking” on Good Morning Britain, while her husband remains in intensive care.

The 53-year-old’s husband Derek has been in ICU since the end of March, after contracting the coronavirus.

Speaking on GMB this morning, Kate said she’s been judged over her behaviour on the show, ahead of interviewing paramedic Laura Heath – who was criticised for posting a glam selfie amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Kate said: “We’ve talked about this, with me doing this show, if we’re having a laugh and joke – because that’s our job in the morning to cheer everybody – people then say does that mean you’re not worried about Derek or you’re not feeling sad about.”

“They see her posting and posing when she should be saving lives, not really understanding we’re all human and the most important thing is we have to laugh and smile.”

“Nothing warrants abuse,” Kate added.

Kate returned to GMB in July, four months after Derek fell ill.

Speaking to viewers today, the presenter got emotional as she revealed how “challenging” it was to be separated from Derek on his 53rd birthday.

Kate explained: “It was obviously a challenging one under the circumstances. We managed to FaceTime him and sing Happy Birthday.”

“We had a cake which we ate over FaceTime. It was very challenging for the kids, but they are doing it brilliantly.”

“We managed to do it with Derek’s family and technically hook up and sing Happy Birthday. We just hope the love seeps through.”
