WATCH: Bryan Dobson weighs in on RTÉ’s gender pay gap

Bryan Dobson shared his thoughts on the gender pay gap in RTÉ on The Late Late Show.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy he recalled how it was awkward but acceptable to be the subject of the news as opposed to reporting it.

“It’s rather unsettling when you’re reporting the news to become the news, but it’s perfectly legitimate.”

The news broke last year that Sharon Ní Bheoláin was being paid €60,000 to €80,000 less than her co-anchor and it didn’t sit right with Bryan that she was being paid so much less than him.

“I found it difficult to see the justification for the difference.”

“I absolutely believe in the principle that you pay equally for equal work or work of equal value.”

Going on to speak about society in general, the radio presenter thinks shifting away from a patriarchal society will benefit both men and women.

“I don’t think it would do men any harm actually if there’s a bit of a shift towards greater respect for women, greater equality for women and greater involvement of women in decision making in every aspect of society.”
