The Top 17 Books Of 2015

While we are social media lovers and spend most of our time staring at a screen (big or small), nothing beats a good book.

From fashion and beauty, autobiographies, to a good murder mystery there was so much to choose from this year.

Here’s our favourite 13 books from 2015:

 

1. Asking For It by Louise O’Neill

Probably the most talked about book in Ireland this year – Louise O’Neill tackled the subject of rape in this book.

Described as “brave, clever and provocative” by the Irish Times, the fictional novels follows promiscuous 18-year-old Emma O’Donovan who becomes a victim of gang rape.

Louise’s book hit the nation hard, with constant praise and she even landed a slot on the Late Late Show.

It’s still flying off the shelves since it’s release in August.

 

2. Brooklyn by Colm Toibin

It’s definitely the Irish movie of the year, so it’s no surprise that the book based on the movie has been a huge hit.

Saoirse Ronan has just been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress and the movie is quickly gaining serious Oscar buzz.

The book follows Eilis Lacey who is forced to emigrate to Brooklyn because she can’t get work in Ireland and ends up in a love triangle.

Although the novel was originally published in 2009, it’s come back into the book charts this year.

 

3. Eat Yourself Beautiful by Rosanna Davison

A mix between a cook book and a nutritional guide, Rosanna Davison’s first book debuted at number one and is still a best seller.

She got some slack for comments regarding nutrition right before the release of her book, but nothing could stop her from a successful launch.

From Vegan recipes to the best foods to suit your body, this is a perfect stocking filler for Christmas.

 

4. The Marble Collector by Cecelia Ahern

Cecelia Ahern’s books are always a hit and The Marble Collector is no different.

The Dubliner’s 12th novel was just published at the end of October and it’s already a huge hit with readers.

The book follows Sabrina, a young woman who discovers a collection of marbles amongst her father’s possessions, she realises that two of the most expensive collections are missing and this starts her on a journey which reveals her father is not who she thinks he is.

 

 5. Seedless In Seattle by Ross O’Carroll Kelly

A Ross O’Carroll Kelly book is always a chart topper, and this one is no different.

This one follows Ross’ father who travels to South America to find his missing daughter.

Ross is dealing with Fionn’s new personality, making an enemy of his daughter, and when he gets caught writing “The F***-it List” it’s the final straw for Sorcha who insists that Ross gets a vasectomy.

 

6. That’s Life by Marty Whelan

There was a few popular auto-biographies this year, and Marty Whelan’s book was one of them.

Recounting his years at RTE, RTE Radio and of course The Eurovision – Marty talks everything from women throwing themselves at him, going on the dole to the days of Winning Streak.

It’s on the book shelf here at Goss HQ, so that’s a good sign.

 

7. Suzanne Jackson – What Happened Next

She’s Ireland’s leading blogger and now a successful author for the second time.

This year Suzanne Jackson brought out her second book, after the success of her first book So Sue Me.

This time Suzanne delves into the success of her business and takes readers behind the scenes of her lavish lifestyle from creating her own nail collection to expanding her brand.

 

8. The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins

Another popular book in Irish homes this year was The Girl On The Train.

A best-seller worldwide, the psychological thriller debuted at number one on The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2015 list.

Referred to as “the next Gone Girl” by book lovers, the novel follows three women Rachel, Anna and Megan, and with a sudden death thrown in the mix, the book is the perfect murder mystery.

 

9. Joe Duffy – Children of the Rising

Another book that topped the book charts in 2015 was Joe Duffy’s Children of the Rising.

Released in October tells the untold story of the Young Lives Lost During Easter 1916.

The popular Liveline presenter explores the deaths of 40 children among the 300 killed in the crossfire.

 

10. Fairy Tales by Joanne Larby

Another blogger to make it into the book charts in 2015 is Joanne Larby aka The Makeup Fairy.

The Dubliner penned a girls guide to life from fitness, beauty and blogging to cosmetic enhancements.

Joanne is still on her book tour but it’s already flying off the shelves.

 

11. Strong Looks Better Naked by Khloe Kardashian

You can pretend you’re not a Kardashian fan if you want to, but we all know they’re your guilty pleasure, so this book is perfect.

Khloe released her first book this year – which details everything from her strict diet to her work-out regime and how she transformed her body.

She looks stunning on the cover and there’s loads of images inside – another perfect pressie for a gal pal.

 

12. Front Roe by Louise Roe

Another perfect girlie book this year was Front Roe by top international stylist and fashion presenter Louise Roe.

In the book Louise helps readers discover their “inner style goddess” and focuses on “rehabbing your wardrobe”, tips on where to get the best vintage buys, how to perfect your makeup look and getting more confident from the inside out.

 

13. Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee

This was definitely one of the most talked about novels of 2015.

Released in July, the book is follow on from the infamous How To Kill A Mocking Bird,the novel tackles the racial tensions brewing in the South in the 1950s and delves into the complex relationship between a father and daughter.

A huge best-seller and probably the most controversial book of 2015.
