Sarah Bolger: 'There was no way my dad would have let me run off to Hollywood to be a child star'

Sarah Bolger has revealed she’s happy her dad pushed her to finish school so she wouldn’t end up like other child stars.

The actress, known for her roles in The Tudors and Once Upon a Time, landed her first role at the tender age of 12 alongside her sister in Jim Sheridan’s In America.

Although hot property after appearing in the flick, the 24-year-old stayed at home and finished her leaving cert before following her acting dreams.

“You look at some young actors and you know them so well from being that 10 or 12-year-old, but I never had that,” she said.

“I wasn’t a child star with my hands on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I was never in all the magazines.

“There’s been no point in my career where I’ve been all over the place and that was really beneficial because I can play any character,” she admitted on The Picture Show on Newstalk.

“People don’t associate me looking just one way, so I can dye my hair or change my look.

“There was no way my dad would have just let me run off to Hollywood, I had to do my Leaving Cert,” she added.
