After the finale aired on Sunday night, an RTE spokeswoman told the Irish Sun: “Series one of Kin has come to a thrilling conclusion and it’s too early to say if another series will be commissioned.”

The gripping new drama – starring Aidan Gillen, Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne, Emmett J Scanlan, Ciaran Hinds and Sam Keeley – followed the lives of a fictional Dublin family embroiled in a gangland war.

While fans are already calling for a second season of Kin, the show’s co-creator Peter McKenna has admitted it will only be recommissioned if the series does well on AMC in the US.

During a previous interview, the IFTA award-winning writer said: “Success in Ireland won’t deliver enough money to keep it going.”
