Taoiseach Enda Kenny has caused outrage online – after Tweeting that he spoke with Donal Trump’s new Vice President Mike Pence.
The newly elected Vice President has been heavily criticised worldwide for supporting ‘gay conversion therapy’.
Pence has openly supported federal funding to “treat” gay people and “convert” them to being straight and has been known for his backward views on women.
The Vice President’s grandfather Richard Cawley came from Ireland, and last night Enda Kenny said he had spoken to Pence and believed he understood Ireland’s needs – with rumours he will be visiting his ancestral home of Doocastle.
And the reaction was NOT good, take a look:
Had a really good conversation tonight with US VP Elect Mike Pence. He certainly knows Ireland and the issues that matter to our people.

@EndaKennyTD he thinks LGBTQ people should be “cured”. Did you remind him Ireland voted for marriage equality and against such bigotry?

@EndaKennyTD I guess you didn’t get around to talking about equality, then. Can you put it on the list for your next conversation?
