Niall Horan reveals why One Direction’s debut gig was the ‘worst night of his life’

The Mullingar native has come a long way since then

Niall Horan has revealed that One Direction’s debut gig was the “worst night of my life”.

The 24-year-old, who shot to fame after One Direction was formed on The X Factor back in 2010, recently embarked on his first solo world tour – and he’s come a long way since One Direction’s first concert back in December 2011.

After releasing their debut single What Makes You Beautiful, the bandmates took to the stage at the Watford Colosseum for their first show – which Niall has since described as a “disaster”.

“I never want to talk about that gig again,” Niall told the BBC.

“Worst night of my life. The worst One Direction show ever. We’ve refused to talk about it ever since – it was a disaster. We were just a joke.

“Anything we rehearsed just went out the window. It was our first gig and we just didn’t know what was going on.”

Since One Direction went on hiatus, Niall signed with Capitol Records as a solo artist – which left his former mentor Simon Cowell reeling.

However, Niall has insisted that the Syco boss still loves him.

“Fair enough, at the time [Simon] might have been upset about it but do you know what? I sure he’s walked straight over that bridge since and he’s fine with it.

“He’s a great guy and he’s made our lives possible – so I’m forever grateful to him. I love Simon and he loves me… secretly,” he added.
