Muireann O’Connell raises incredible amount of money for hospice that cared for her father

Muireann O’Connell has raised €52k for the hospice that cared for her beloved father.

The Ireland AM star’s dad Brendan was looked after by the staff in Limerick’s Milford Care Centre after being diagnosed with cancer, and he sadly passed away in March 2021.

Ahead of her father’s first anniversary, Muireann decided to start a fundraiser for the hospice and as of Monday evening, €52,730.77 was donated.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, Muireann wrote: “It’s done and a HUGE thank you to every single one of you who has donated. It is unbelievable!”

“€52,730.77 raised for @milfordcarecentre Originally, we’d hoped to make €5,000 so this is beyond belief!”

“I hope you never have to use the services of a hospice but if you do, you’ll realise how invaluable their work is.”

She previously said of the fundraiser: “I wanted to do something to commemorate Dad but this is about Milford and the almost indescribable work they do. They deal in dignity when all hope of dignity seems gone- ‘cause as a huge amount of you know, there is very little dignity in dying my friends.”

“So many people lost loved ones during covid. I’m very aware that we’re not special but…. it felt like a need to do something tangible for Brendan and others who died without getting the send off they deserved.”

“You have gone above and beyond in a time of outrageous need around the world. Thank you so much; to all the companies, brands and friends who have donated prizes: this is all you bebe! I can’t get over the utter soundness of you!”
