Miriam O'Callaghan: 'I never think of myself as successful'

RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan has admitted she doesn’t think of herself a successful.

The Prime Time presenter says she would “struggle” to get things right in her life on a daily basis.

She said: “I never think of myself as successful — that would seem like idle vanity and anyway, most days I struggle and fail to get the balance right in my life, but I do my best.

“Overall I feel blessed with my life and grateful for my good fortune and think all the time of others I have loved who were dealt a very cruel hand in life.

“I try every day to live a good life and treat people with kindness and decency and respect. Life is precious, good health is the greatest gift of all and I wake up every morning thankful for my life.”

And mum-of-eight Miriam told the Sunday Independent that she doesn’t worry about success – instead about how others are treated.

She said: “For me what matters in life, and I bore my children to tears talking about this, is how you treat other people.

“Do you live a good life? By that I mean do you treat everyone you know and everyone you meet, whoever they are, with kindness and decency and respect.

“If you do that, then in my eyes you are a success in your life. How you treat people is my essential success barometer.

“My mother and father, who both came from the country, always instilled in me the importance of those three virtues and I try to practice them every day of my life.

“My parents also worked very hard and showed me the great importance of a work ethic — any success at work I may have now is simply down to hard work and little else.”
