Miriam O'Callaghan caught on malfunctioning rollercoaster: 'I was terrified'

Miriam O’Callaghan has revealed her terror of being trapped on a malfunctioning children’s rollercoaster ride with her son.

The TV presenter and her nine-year-old son Jamie had to cling on to the Happy Caterpillar ride in Salthill, Galway after it failed to come to a stop.

“I was very frightened. It was very, very scary. There were two men sitting in front of me and they were all very worried too,” she said.

Scary: Miriam was caught on a malfunctioning rollercoaster

“The ride was full. It started up as normal, started going fast, and everyone, including Jamie and I, were shocked and terrified.”

“It was going really fast and the woman in charge couldn’t do anything — it appeared to be gaining more speed.”

“It was meant to go round just three times but it just kept going and going,” she told The Sun.

Family: Miriam was on the ride with her son Jamie

Miriam and Jamie had been paying a visit to one of the Prime Time stars older sons in Irish college Colaiste Lorgan when they decided to take a trip to the playground.

The ride has since been taken down following the terrifying mishap.

“It’s a kiddies’ coaster not a fast moving thing — it crawls around like a caterpillar for young kids, and parents to get on with them,” operator of the ride Owen Curry said.

“There was a problem with the compressor, it went around more times than it normally goes around — took a few seconds for us to come to a manual stop.”
