Mark Rylance praises young Irish star Barry Keoghan

Mark Rylance has praised his young Irish co-star Barry Keoghan, insisting that he’s not in it to “be famous”.

The Oscar-winning actor and the former Love/Hate star appear alongside each other Christopher Nolan’s new WWII epic, and Mark has nothing but good things to say about Barry.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment ahead of Dunkirk’s release, Mark said, “It’s really exciting. Not only is he a brilliant actor but he’s got such a lovely ambition.”

“He’s not in it just to make money or be famous, he’s got real taste.”

“He wants to work with the top directors and be involved in class projects. It’s lovely to see young actors with that kind of care for the profession and for the craft of filmmaking because if people aren’t that way then the films will just become crap,” he said.

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan has already received rave reviews ahead of the movie’s official release, for bringing the true-life story of the Dunkirk evacuation to the big screen with three intersecting storylines of battles on the land, sea and sky.

Dunkirk hits Irish cinemas on Friday, July 21.
