The producer came out later in life

Shauna Keogh has admitted that she spent a lot of her adult life “living a lie” as she “didn’t want to be gay”.

The television producer and director, who is currently dating former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh, came out at the age of 30.

She recently co-directed an RTÉ documentary about being gay in rural Ireland, called The Only Gay In The Village.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Shauna said, “I spent my entire life on the run from my own sexuality, and battling my internal feelings.

“I didn’t want to be gay. I felt very homophobic towards myself, it was a real struggle accepting it.

“When I look back, I think my life would have been a lot less anxiety-ridden if I had been able to come out earlier.”

The Only Gay In The Village will be shown on RTÉ 2, at 9pm on November 9th.
