Love/Hate star dubbed as the ‘next big thing’

Barry Keoghan has been dubbed as the “next big thing” by major US magazine The Hollywood Reporter.

Best known for his role as ‘cat killer’ Wayne on RTÉ crime series Love/Hate, the actor has also starred alongside Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson in Trespass Against Us.

However, most recently IFTA Rising Star nominee Barry starred in Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk, which is set for release on July 21.

Ahead of the film’s release, The Hollywood Reporter have featured him in the ‘next big thing’ section of their Cannes edition this month.

Taking to Twitter, Barry shared a sneak peek of his spread in the magazine.

In the interview, Barry described what life was like growing up in “the real” Dublin 1, and opened up about losing his mother to a heroin addiction.

After spending five years in foster care with his brother from the age of 5, Barry said, “Heroin came into Dublin, and it caught every family. My mother was one of the unlucky ones. She got caught on it, then she passed away.”

“I try to be there and be present and use that history that I have. I have a different story to tell,” he added.
