Louis Walsh has advice for Irish X Factor hopefuls

Louis Walsh has dished out some advice for Irish singers auditioning for The X Factor in Dublin this weekend.

The X Factor producers will be in St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre until Sunday, and Louis is begging Irish hopefuls to be “individual” and “confident” in their audition.

“It’s about personality and likability, because that’s who people vote for. People don’t necessarily vote for the best singers,” he told Jenny Greene on RTÉ’s 2FM.

“Every year there’s one or two songs that people think we want to hear, but we don’t. We’re looking for individuality, change the song a bit, slow it down or something. Song choice is crucial and so is presentation,” he said.

The judge, who has managed the likes of Westlife and Girls Aloud, also admitted that he’d love to have an Irish person win this year.

“If you come in nervous, we’re going to be nervous. We want you to be happy, this could change someones life. And I’d love to get an Irish winner this year.

“You must be confident to go in there, and if you’re enjoying it, we’re enjoying it. And it is everything, not just the voice, you don’t have to be a great singer – you just have to a great performer and be likeable.

“You’ve nothing to lose, it’s St Stephen’s Green, they’re there until Sunday. Just go along, tell them I sent ya, and I’ll see you at the live shows. That’s how it could work,” he added.

Lastly, Louis also warned hopefuls not to sing Etta James’ At Last, as it’s been overdone so many times.
