Keith Duffy: 'I've lost out on acting roles for being in Boyzone'

Keith Duffy has admitted his boyband past has caused harm to his acting career.

The Boyzone singer insisted he has to work harder “to be taken seriously”.

“It’s difficult, when you come from a boyband background, to be taken seriously,” he said.

“It’s one of those things I’ve come to live with. It was very important for me to be taken seriously as an actor.”

Although appearing on Coronation Street and countless plays, the Dubliner revealed he still misses out on roles because of his boyband past.

“I’ve done some fantastic productions. I did six months on the West End last year in a Billy Roche play called A Handful of Stars and it was huge,” he admitted.

“We sold out and the reviews were fantastic. Then I go and do one Boyzone concert and people forget what you’ve done.

“I’ve gone for certain roles and it goes against you because you’re so well-known in another field. And it’s maybe not as credible,” he added.

The father-of-two insisted he doesn’t care about the critics but it does have an issue with stars that go into acting for the sake of it.

“This is the problem, you have other people in the business that do kind of take advantage of their position because they’re very well known,” he told the Herald.

“But there are people who are passionate about bringing somebody’s work to life.”
