Ed Sheeran told Jedward that he and his wife Cherry Seaborn had welcomed their first child before he announced it to the rest of the world.
The singer made the announcement this morning, sharing a photo of the newborn’s tiny socks on Instagram and telling fans that Cherry had given birth last week.
However, John and Edwards Grimes knew about the newborn’s arrival almost 24 hours ahead of Ed’s public announcement – with the twins sharing a private DM they had received from the star.
“Hi Twitter @Edsheeran has some news for you and us,” they wrote, “We kept it a secret obviously. Welcome Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.”

In the message sent to Jedward dating back to yesterday, Ed wrote: “I love you guys. Sorry I’ve been off socials for so long, just popping in to tell you you’re awesome and hope to see you soon!
“I’ve got a daughter now by the way, you’re going to love her.”
In his announcement this morning, Ed wrote on Instagram: “Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you,” he wrote, “Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.”
“We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.
“We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x”
The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2018.
