Irish rugby star Andrew Porter devastated by the death of beloved pet after Six Nations win

It was a bittersweet St. Patrick’s weekend for Irish rugby star Andrew Porter.

The rugby player was devastated by the death of his beloved family dog Cheka, following Ireland’s Six Nations win against Scotland.

In a heartbreaking Instagram post, the 28-year-old shared a series of snaps featuring his family’s pet beagle.

He captioned the post: “Rest easy my boy ❤️.”

The Porter family adopted Cheka 14 years ago, shortly after Andrew’s mother Wendy passed away following a battle with cancer.

The rugby player opened up about his mother’s death and how it impacted him at 12 years old in the Netflix series Six Nations: Full Contact, which premiered in January.

Andrew won praise for sharing his struggles with mental health in the docu-series, which followed the six teams taking part in the 2023 Guinness Six Nations.

The Leinster prop will no doubt be seeking comfort from his English bulldog Pablo, who also made a cameo in the Netflix series.

He shares Pablo with his wife Elaine, whom he married at Glasson Lakehouse last summer.
