Greg O’Shea hints there’s more Irish people heading into the Love Island villa

Greg O’Shea has hinted there’s more Irish people heading into the Love Island villa this summer.

Dublin native Dami Hope was part of the show’s original lineup this year, but it looks like more Irish people are heading to Majorca for a summer of love.

Speaking to Holly Carpenter on her Filter Free podcast, the Limerick native said he knows “there is a couple of Irish people” joining the cast of the 2022 series.

The retired rugby player said: “I’m excited to see more Irish people in it this summer because it really mixes it up.”

“I also think Irish people are very well mannered and friendly and I think that’s why we have done well on the show, myself and Maura [Higgins] and others.”

Greg also revealed that upcoming Islanders have reached out to him for “advice and tips” before entering the villa.

The 27-year-old said: “It sounds really cliche, but I’m just telling them, ‘you have to just do your own thing and be yourself’ and they are like, ‘ah come on.'”

The Limerick native advised hopefuls that there will be “stuff you won’t see at all”, and that the producers of the show will be with them in the villa.

Greg continued: “There was one guy in particular, I literally was like, ‘man, just remember your mother is watching and then act accordingly.'”

And also treat girls like you want your sister to be treated and you will always make the right decision then, because you never want your sister to be disrespected in any way and you are not going to start being vulgar in front of your mother.”

The former rugby star explained that he won’t be devotedly watching the show this year, now that he knows the ins and outs of it, and how it all operates.

However, he will dip and out of the show to keep an eye on Irish contestants.

“Just out of respect for being an advocate for the show. And there is a couple of Irish people going in I’ll watch just to know how they are getting on,” he added.

Greg won the 2019 series of Love Island alongside Newcastle native Amber Gill, nabbing the £50,000 cash prize.

However, not long after splitting their winnings, the pair went their separate ways.
